Selection Board /2011

TAKREEM Selection Board consists of individuals from across the MENA region that are recognized experts in their fields. They come together from diverse professions, renowned for their distinctions and achievements, and their responsibility is to draw up a carefully considered short-list of candidates in each award category that is dealt with independently of the other.

	Professor Awartani is Secretary General of the Universal Education Foundation (UEF), which promotes the holistic concept of learning for well-being. As Professor of Mathematics at Birzeit University he has made many contributions to mathematics, educational development and reform.
	He was the founding President of the Palestinian Society for Mathematical Sciences, founding Chairman of the Palestinian Mathematical Olympiad, founding member of the Academy for Science and Technology and co-founder of the Network of Palestinian Scientists and Technologists Abroad. He has been Chief Advisor for Science and Technology in the Palestinian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Director of the National Science and Technology Policy Project, and Chairman of the National UNESCO Committee on Science.
	Prof Awartani is the Chairman of the Arab Foundations Forum enhancing strategic philanthropy across the Arab region.
	Prof. Awartani is also founding President of Alpha International for Research, Polling and Informatics, Senior Fellow of the Synergos Institute and member of its Arab Social Innovators Advisory Board.
	He has consulted for several international organizations including the EU, USAID, UNDP, and UNESCO advising on a range of topics.
