Selection Board /2011

TAKREEM Selection Board consists of individuals from across the MENA region that are recognized experts in their fields. They come together from diverse professions, renowned for their distinctions and achievements, and their responsibility is to draw up a carefully considered short-list of candidates in each award category that is dealt with independently of the other.

	Aleya El Bindari Hammad is a founding member and member of the board of the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement, and a co-chair of the United Nations Women’s Leadership Council to Fight Human Trafficking.
	She is also a member of several eminent boards, the Board the New York Academy of Medicine and the Advisory Board of the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces in Geneva.
	Dr. El Bindari Hammad has devoted her carrier to public heath issues. She was a member of the Board of FXB Centre for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University. She served for more than thirty years as a UN staff member to the WHO, where she was appointed Executive Director/Assistant Director General. Within the WHO, she was responsible for Health in Development policy and was fundamental to the initiation of the human rights programme and the creation of its Commission on Women.
	She was also Chair of the International Advisory Board, Wagner School of Public Service and Visiting Professor, New York University and George Washington University, Centre for International Health.
	Dr. El Bindari Hammad is the holder of many awards including: the Egyptian Presidential Gold Medal of Honour.
	She is the author of many books, scientific papers, articles and editorials. She spearheaded the publication of Wounds of War (Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, 2004) and Trafficking Women and Children (University of Oxford, 2005).
